PantryWalk 2004
PantryWalk 2004
Open Pantry gives a round of applause and special thanks to the nearly 100 walkers and 20 sponsors and contributors who made this event a success! Their participation along with the generosity of people who pledged our walkers raised over $12,000 to benefit Open Pantry. These funds will help us provide food, shelter and care to our neighbors in need.
We were honored Mayor Ryan and his wife, Joan, walked with us, as well as Wilfred Valliere, who marked his 20th year walking for the cause.
USPS letter carrier and acoustic singer-songwriter, Scott Rider kicked off the walk with his tribute song, "Song for Larry." Scott wrote the song in memory and honor of Larry Dunham, who froze to death this past January at the steps of Symphony Hall.
The new route on the bike trail along the historic Connecticut River was a big hit, since it offered a shorter and more level route. Walking northward, there were quite a few reminders of people who are homeless; either among the people we met along the trail or the makeshift shelters on the riverbanks. These images helped us remember why we were walking in the rain and how much more needs to be accomplished.
Again our heartfelt thanks to the walkers, those who pledged, sponsors and volunteers!
